VLC is a popular media app that is going to turn 20 this year. Although the media application is old enough, it shows some signs of slowing down. The app has a record of 3.5 million downloads in total. The all-new VLC 4.0 is complete yet stable and is expected to launch in the coming months.
The new update will refresh and update the user interface (UI) from scratch and will also pay attention to loading videos from the internet. With respect to content, the new features in VLC will also rely on third party extensions. The developers of VLC are also working on the web version of this app which will work on majority of the browsers.
One of the major competitors of the VLC media app as a result of this update will be Moviepedia Project that is also a competitor of IMDB. Another anticipated highlight of this update will be security feature. However, this feature is not confirmed yet.
In order to support the whole project, VLC is also planning to add an ad-supported service according to the President of VideoLAN Foundation, Jean-Baptiste Kempf. This will make VLC similar to the Plex service started back in 2019.
