With effect from July 1, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) increased the tax rate on business class airline tickets. The tax has increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 and is now charged whether tickets are issued.
The statement stated that “All business class passengers whose tickets are already issued for travel on July 1 or later are hereby informed that this difference may be collected at the airport by airline staff,”
In the meantime, Pakistan International Airlines would not be impacted by the new tax for business class tickets (PIA). According to a national carrier official, PIA does not provide business-class amenities on its aircraft, so the most recent development will not have any bearing on it.
