According to the Pakistan Badminton Federation, Mahoor Shahzad is the first badminton player from Pakistan to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
In a joint statement, PBF’s Nisar Ahmed Shahwani and PBF Secretary-General Wajid Ali Chaudhry said, “It is truly a result of her endless efforts and hard work that she has been picked to participate in the famous event.”
Because of her recent achievements on the circuit and her world rating, the ace badminton player secured a spot in the Tokyo Olympics. She is one of the top 133 female players in the world.
“My wish has been granted. I can’t believe I’ll be competing in the Olympics for Pakistan. I’ll live up to the hype and hoist the green crescent flag, “Shahzad explained.
She said that if she had been able to compete in international events in the previous year, she would have been among the top 100 badminton players in the world. However, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, she was unable to do so.
“This is fantastic news for the women of the country, since one of our athletes has qualified for the Olympics solely on the basis of her worldwide rating. The international body has just informed us of Mahoor’s accomplishment.
