Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Pakistan’s interior minister, has announced that the government will launch Asia’s first ever e-passport service in the first quarter of next year.
Rashid said this online option will allow individuals to receive their passports without having to travel or wait in lines at passport offices, speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad on Wednesday to announce major initiatives by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.

The revamped online passport facility, fast track delivery service at zonal offices, website upgrade, and inauguration of the Director General of Immigration and Passports’ official logo were among the measures.
He stated that the passport delivery service has been improved, and that it may now be obtained within twenty-four hours.
Renunciation of citizenship and emergency travel documents are also available via the internet.
