On Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the formation of a committee to look into the delay in the completion of the Metro Bus project from Peshawar Morr to the New Islamabad International Airport.
When the newly-elected premier arrived at the Metro Bus Service in the federal capital early in the morning, he was briefed by CDA and NHA officials about the project. He then issued the directions.
Since the project was initiated by former premier Nawaz Sharif in 2017 and had been slated to be completed in 2018, he expressed remorse for the four-year delay.
From April 16, he instructed the CDA to activate the Islamabad Metro Bus Service so that people could get to and from the airport more easily. Since the project has already cost Rs16 billion, the project’s delays have been labelled as “extreme negligence,” according to him. He also instructed officials to do a feasibility study for two new roads, one from Rawat and one from Bhara Kahu, that will connect the airport.
Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s prime minister, said that luggage racks would be fitted on airport shuttle buses. During the holy month of Ramadan, the Prime Minister has ordered all metro services in the city to be free.
On April 11, the new premier took office and immediately ordered the Islamabad metro bus service to be operational.
