Due to the smog, the Punjab government has officially announced that public and private schools in Lahore will be closed for three weeks. The three holidays a week will stay in place until we hear otherwise.
The School Education Department (SED) sent out a notice that all public and private schools in Lahore will be closed every Friday and Saturday. The official holiday on Sunday will be the third day off.
The news comes a day after the Lahore High Court (LHC) asked the Punjab government to announce that all public and private schools will be closed for three days a week because of the terrible smog in the province.
During the hearing of the case about the smog in Punjab, especially in Lahore, and how bad it is for the people there, LHC Judge Justice Shahid Kareem was also very unhappy with what the provincial government was doing to stop the smog.
In addition, Punjab’s chief minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, declared an environmental emergency in the province. The development occurs as the province’s smog situation worsens.
The Chief Minister of Punjab has been instructed to control smog-causing factors in the province, such as stubble burning, brick kilns, and smoke-emitting vehicles. He instructed the anti-smog unit to implement these directives in letter and spirit.
